STAB
STAB increases an attack's Base Power. The base power of an attack determines it's strength. Also the attack value of a pokémon does too but I am not going into that now. FireBlast's base power is 120. Psychic's base power is 90.
Now STAB makes the base power of an attack 50% stronger. Making the attack 50% stronger. For a attack to have STAB it has to be the same type of it's pokémon.
For example: If Fire Blast is taught to a Fire Pokémon. It will be 50% stronger. If it is taught to a non-fire pokémon, it won't be 50% stronger.
STAB is a good thing to keep in mid when you make your pokémon's moveset.
