Phone Calls

In Pokémon Gold and Silver and also in Pokémon Crystal which expands a little on this. You can give a trainer you beat your phone number and they will call you back to talk, battle again, tell you when super rare pokémon are common, and/or in crystal give you a item, which for the first time a randomly after that are evolution stones. The exception to this is bug catcher: wade. Here is a list of Trainers and their phone numbers.

Note: These trainers are in all 3 versions (GSC) but what they do aren't. For example 3 of the 6 super rare pokémon are common in pokémon crystal, so naturally they won't call about it. That is why a few things are GS only.
