Since Fire Red and Leaf Green's release caught me by surprise (I've been busy with school), I've thrown together version 1.4.3.1 of the pokedex. What is different? It has Fire Leaf data.

From what I understand, Machine data and Egg Moves are unchanged from Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire. Also from what I understand, Level up data has had quite a few changes however. So we now have Fire Red and Leaf Green Level up move data in the pokedex.

Please tell me if you find any inaccuarcies. Enjoy!

It is 12:47PM EST and it seems that Pokemon is so popular... The webserver that handles pokemon.com is down. I am getting this error from the server:

"The request cannot be processed at this time. The amount of traffic exceeds the Web site's configured capacity."

What was that about pokemon losing popularity again? ^_^

It seems that 2 days ago, Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green were released in japan. I was either sleeping, studying, or at school at the time. ^_^;;

It would be nice if they made these dates universial to the point where the entire world would get the game. Since they have a seperate date for each country/region, it is no big news for the people in the US, Europe, Australia, etc. I wonder when we can expect launches in the other countries.

By the way, if there are any people in Japan who are viewing this... Be sure to enjoy Fire/Leaf!

It seems earlier today at approximately 12:20PM EST the server failed. It came back online at approximately 1:15 PM EST. My host has no idea what happened but I doubt it will happen again anytime soon.

I'd like to thank the person who reported the bug regarding the Move Tutor data. As it turned out, I changed how I stored data and forgot to change a few variables (or recode the move tutor code so it is more reliable like I just did). The variables in the database were arranged like this. Variable 1 was flamethrower, Variable 2 was Ice Beam and Variable 3 was Thunderbolt. I had the dex checking variable 0 for Flamethrower, Variable 1 for Ice Beam, and Variable 2 for Thunderbolt. There was no variable 0 and it was reporting the wrong moves... Oops.

Anyway, I've uploaded version 1.4.3c to correct this problem.

I wish people would tell me when a bug pops into the dex as a result of a reference not being corrected. I forgot to switch the reference for pokemon's HP from a PHP Include (that I pulled) to MySQL. I've uploaded version 1.4.3b of the dex to correct this problem. This is the only change in this version.

Here is some nice news. I think we are the first pokemon site (at least that I know of) that is covering this story. Anyway, according to news.com. Nintendo has announced a new portable game console called the "Nintendo DS." It has two 3-inch LCD screens, two processors, and 1Gigabit of RAM (128Megabytes). Nintendo says it unlike anything on the market today. They are going to reveal more about it at E3, I can't wait.

By the way, I wonder what DS stands for? Digital Screen perhaps? Also, I wonder what will make playing it so different from playing a game on the GBA. Only time will tell. One more thing. I have a question for Nintendo, how long will it take to come out with a pokemon version? ^_^

Update: I spoke too soon, another one that specializes in pokemon card information found out about this before I did.

We are on a new host yet again. Luckily, the only area of the site that should have suffered downtime were the forums which was 30 hours. I find no reason to switch hosts (price is good, server is fast and dependable, etc) so I am 99.999% sure that we are staying on this host.

My host just got back to me. They say that they are upgrading the server and that is why MySQL is down... I wonder how their customers put up with this nonsense. The server has been being upgraded for several hours now. I'm looking into other hosts and their money back guarentee.

Yes, I know the forums and dex are having database issues. I've filed a support ticket with my host and hopefully they will resolve it soon.

I've updated the pokedex to version 1.4.3. Here is the changelog:

-GS and Crystal data are merged whenever they can be speeding up load times a bit
-At least 90% of the pokedex's data has been moved into MySQL (meaning I have done an overhaul on the data storage system); this speeds up the dex and allows it to use less memory

There are some minor things that I left for a later version. I'll try to get those changes ready for the next update to the dex.

I was looking at logs and the database errors lasted 3 hours and 57 minutes (felt like an enternity). Anyway, I am an a little late on covering this but the pokemon center is having a mystery event according to pokemon.com, I wonder what the mystery gift is...

Within the last hour or so, our host migrated us to another server. Things are much faster now. We shouldn't have to worry about MySQL problems anymore. ^_^

I received a reply from our host. They already are working on the problem. The MySQL process "should get progressively better through out the week" according to my host.

I did not anticipate this. It seems our host is having some MySQL issues during peak hours. Meaning you might recieve an error message from either the forums or the pokedex. If you receive that, try refreshing. The dex's memory issues were resolved in version 1.4.2 because I inserted some of its data into the MySQL database. It is designed to very quickly connect, get the info, and disconnect so database errors in the dex should be rare. Unfortunately, I didn't design the forum software so it is being hit by this harder than the Pokedex is. I have filed a support ticket with our host, hopefully they will resolve this quickly.

If you see this, you are viewing the site on its new host. There are some changes. I've archived the news that was posted when we were on our old host. The pokedex is back on the domain and the downloads section has been revived. The Pokedex is now at version 1.4.2. The changes are:

-All Games mode is an option
-A few parts of the dex were recoded to either save memory or speed things up.

There are some new Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green screenshots that I missed a few days ago. You can find them at the offical japanese pokemon site:

http://www.pokemon.co.jp/game/fireleaf03.html

I'll see if I can add a page explaining what each of the pictures are of later.
