Unown

In Pokémon Gold and Silver and Pokémon Crystal there are Pokémon called unown. There are 26 different types of unown, each one is a letter of the alphabet. They are located in the Ruins of Alph and are unlocked by completing four puzzles. After you complete a puzzle in the ruins some unown appear. When you complete another one more unown appear. Until you have completed all 4 of them you will be unable to catch all 26 unown. The puzzles are: an Kabuto Puzzle, an Ho-oh Puzzle, an Aerodactyl Puzzle, and a Omanyte Puzzle. To unlock the other 3 puzzles after the first one you will need to be able to Surf and use Strength (Strength is not a requirement for all of the other 3). When you have caught 3 unown, a scientist will give you the unown dex. After you have caught all 26 unown you will be able to print them out in the science lab.

In Pokémon Crystal there are new secrets to the ruins. In the ruins there are treasure rooms with markings on the panels to the entrances. Here is a chart of what they are, and what to do:

Marking: Do:
Escape Use Escape Rope.
Mystic Attach Mystic Water to 1st in party.
Light Use Flash.
Ho-oh Make Ho-oh the 1st in your party.

In the chambers after the treasure rooms, there are markings which read:
