PokéRUS Virus

There is a good virus in the game called PokéRUS. It affects all pokémon and it lasts anywhere from 1 day to a week. There is a 1 in 21845 chance (I am sure it is that for GSC only; I have not checked to see whether or not this ratio is in RS yet) of catching it. That means that you will have to fight about 21845 wild pokémon to catch it. You may have to fight half or double of that amount of wild pokémon to catch PokéRUS, it depends on luck

Don't worry if your pokémon catches it, it won't die (pokémon never die on you). In GSC, it will grow 2x faster, meaning it will have a double stats gain everythime it grows a level even after the virus is gone. The virus doesn't, I repeat doesn't double stats.

In RS, it will gain something called effort points 2x faster. In RS, effort points control status gains. The more the better. The amount of effort points your pokemon has, increases after every battle. Since PokeRus doubles the Effort Point gain, your pokemon will have a higher stats gain as it grows by levels than before it had PokéRUS. even after the virus is gone.

That could help you raise a pokémon to Max stats. A pokémon at Maximum stats is at the maximum strength it can accomplish. Not many normal pokémon reach max stats even at level 100. So if it has PokéRUS it will be easier for it to reach max stats. After it is gone your pokémon will never catch it again. The PokéRUS Virus exists only in Pokémon Gold and Silver, Pokémon Crystal, and Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire.

Getting PokéRUS

Well there are two ways to get PokéRUS. One is to fight about 21845 wild pokémon. The other one is slighly easier. Find someone that has pokémon infected with pokéRUS and trade for an PokéRUS infected pokémon. Then to keep the virus. Put it in a pokémon box (If you have other pokémon in the box, they may become infected too). Those are the only 2 ways to get PokéRUS.

Harvesting PokéRUS

Well after you get PokéRUS you will want to keep it. So why not harvest it and save it for when you need it. To infect more pokémon with PokéRUS battle with the PokéRUS infected pokémon. After about 5-10 battles the pokémon next to it should be infected. Now you can put the newly pokéRUS infected pokémon in the PC for safe keeping.

Note: In RS an item called Marco Brace also doubles Effort Point gain. So if you used them together... *Hint, Hint* ^_^
